The Islington Project

The Islington Project was a north London project refurbishing an entire flat. We were entrusted with this project from start to finish. The flat was designed to the highest specification and creating a spacious apartment was of the utmost importance.

The original layout had the master bedroom to the rear of the property, and the kitchen to the front with minimum living space. This lacked warmth and created an awkward layout in the property. The owner wanted a change and to make the space somewhere more social and accommodating for guests.

What we did

With the new design, we reshaped the layout by removing walls and installing steel beams. By doing this we were able to move the kitchen, living space, and dining area to the rear of the property. This created a light and airy space, especially in the morning with the sunrise light pouring in. We then moved the master bedroom to the front of the property. Finally, the shower and toilet room were moved to the central part of the flat layout.

By creating a larger living room space we were able to create a temporary second bedroom. We built a bespoke wooden bifold panel system on a mechanical ceiling rack which can be pulled out to create a temporary bedroom for visitors. We included subtle golden designs to create an interesting look that can also blend in when folded away. These panels sit neatly against the wall when not in use, and the larger living space can be used as normal.

Some of the other features we included in this property design are:

  • high-end kitchen
  • solid oak flooring throughout
  • bespoke lighting
  • gold leaf decorating some walls
  • and more

The Islington Project had some unique features that we had to adapt our plan for. Giving the owner the ability to create a second bedroom isn't something that we come across often, but was a great challenge for the team to work on. We always make sure our projects are finished to a high standard, and this was no different. Both our team and the owner was satisfied with the work. Have a look at the finished project below.
